This is the great Land of the wombat and roo
And the emu as well as the white and the black cockatoo
The echidna, koala, platypus and currawong
And the magpie the bird with the beautiful song
The kookaburra, the rosella and the lorikeet
And the magpie lark who can be seen in the park off of the street
And where the possums at night can be heard on the trees
The sounds of their squabblings and snarling is carrying in the breeze
The lyrebird the greatest mimic of them all
In his own song incoporate every local bird call
Far from the big cities in the brown landscape flat and wide
The World's oldest known Race of people are known to reside
The Land of the wallaby and the pale eyed crow
Yet so little about it we can claim to know.

Francis Duggan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/this-is-the-great-land/
