The weather may not be that good the sky overcast and gray
But the Millstreet Town St Patrick's parade it will take place today
From Minor Row led by the Pipers Band up through the old Town Square
I'm just one Millstreet person amongst many more who wishes he were there.

To stand in the crowd on the Main Street and watch the big parade
Of such occasions I recall fond memories are made
The weather may be threatening rain a cool day of ten degrees
But the tricolurs and streamers will be tossing in the breeze.

March the seventeenth in Ireland is a very special date
In every Town and Village their Patron Saint they celebrate
People wear their sprigs of shamrock on the lapel of their coat
on a day celebrated in song and verse by the singer and the poet.

I will not be in Millstreet Town to watch the big parade
But I have good memories of the past and good memories never fade
And in my flights of fancy I am one of the crowd
And as the floats and trucks go by I too am clapping loud.

Francis Duggan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/on-this-st-patrick-s-day/
