Floating on the icy water <br />there sits black and white, <br />from the frozen perch <br />he cannot take flight, <br />but instead dives <br />into the deep blues <br />that run beneath. <br /> <br />As the wind blows <br />and the birds fly, <br />the penguin emperor <br />slides on his stomach <br />down the snowy slope <br />into the frozen water. <br /> <br />Chasing little fish, <br />he catches some <br />and brings them <br />back to the <br />little ones. <br /> <br />They gobble <br />them down and <br />give a little sigh <br />as the sun goes down <br />and is no longer high. <br /> <br />Cuddled together <br />for the darkening night, <br />floating on the icy water <br />there sits black and white.<br /><br />Madeleine Garrison<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/ode-to-the-penguin/
