With stooped shoulders and hair more white than gray <br />She shuffles to the milk bar every day <br />And nod her head in greeting say hello <br />To those she know or feel that she may know. <br /> <br />On her next birthday she will be ninety three <br />And her dearest wish to reach her century <br />A century of years well worth a toast <br />And a feat of which so very few can boast. <br /> <br />She came from hills of distant Pakistan <br />And settled here and wed an Aussie man <br />And he passed on some fifteen years ago <br />But she still live and not much she doesn't know. <br /> <br />For many years a devoted mother and wife <br />And she has known the ups and downs of life <br />And her son she has not seen for many years <br />But she feels now she's had enough of tears. <br /> <br />The good days and the bad days she has seen <br />But she say this the happiest she has ever been <br />And she look to the future years in hope <br />And age no burden she know how to cope. <br /> <br />So far away from Asia she will die <br />And her ashes spread beneath Australian sky <br />This woman from the hills of Pakistan <br />And widow of Australian working man.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/an-inspirational-woman/
