Our ordinary heroes wave their National flag <br />And of their patriotism so proudly they brag <br />By their type so often dreams of peace are destroyed <br />So much for the fervour of Nationalistic pride. <br /> <br />Our ordinary heroes seem ordinary indeed <br />The words of our ordinary leader they heed <br />He clings on to power by fueling their fear <br />They are silly enough to believe all they hear. <br /> <br />From him about people they don't even know <br />And 'tis from their fear of the unknown that their hatred seem to grow <br />For those who are different and it seems sad to say <br />That one fool is born every minute each day. <br /> <br />Our ordinary heroes are ordinary indeed <br />Their patriotism only them to war zones lead <br />Their leader to their deaths he points them the way <br />And he will die a hero of old age one day.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/our-ordinary-heroes/
