I remember my old Dublin
The Snug Bars, the Cafeterias
No Wine Bars and Coffee Houses
Yes, she has had a few face lifts
But Dublin the grand old lady
Can still do it for me
She can still produce that magic
Her welcome, has a familiarity to it
She has a dark side, like any capital
But her allure, still draws me in
Like the scent of a women’s perfume
The Celtic tiger, only scratched her surface
It takes more than the whimper of a cat
To rid the capital of her old ghosts
The likes of Bang Bang, The Hairy Lemon
And Forty Coats, to name but a few
In parts of Dublin, the makeovers
Have made her look a bit tarty
But as Ronnie Drew used to say
Sure, she’s my Dublin

Ken Duffy

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/my-dublin/
