I watched my mother experience menopause, <br />Right at the time, <br />I discovered the truth about Santa Claus. <br />It was as if someone slapped me into reality! <br />And crushed my honey scented imagination... <br />And stung me like a bee. <br /> <br />I remember hearing my mom and dad, <br />Play with our Christmas toys. <br />And my sister Mimmie and I, <br />Pretended to be asleep... <br />But I took a peek, <br />And became much annoyed! <br /> <br />And when my father announced in the morning, <br />'Wake up kids, <br />Santa just left! ' <br />My sister and I rushed to the tree, <br />We could barely take a breath! <br /> <br />And when I saw all the price tags on the toys, <br />I then became upset! <br />My mother looked at me... <br />And that's when I noticed her, <br />Break into sweats! <br /> <br />'These hot flashes, <br />I'm getting in dashes. <br />And dancing around is not the best! <br />You kids better enjoy those gifts Santa left... <br />Because these bills, <br />Is what I have to deal with next! ' <br /> <br />And I looked at my sister... <br />As my father played with my train. <br />And I thought I'd better pretend, <br />Since this Christmas day for us... <br />Wasn't guaranteed not to end, <br />Even before it begins! <br /> <br />And I didn't want my mother, <br />To go through a change of life fit! <br />I wasn't sure what was going on with her then... <br />But as I grew older I realized, <br />Not to make fun of it! <br />Or stare with a silly grin. <br /> <br />'Ma... <br />This is the best Christmas 'ever'! ' <br /> <br />I lied! <br />And she cried with joy! <br /> <br />My mama did not raise us to be fools! <br />And I knew just what to say... <br />To keep my position as 'mama's boy. <br />And what to do to keep mama cool!<br /><br />Lawrence S.
