Kathryn Brookins - Taking a walk.

Hear the music as you walk the boardwalk,
also hearing those around you, chatter, and talk.
The breeze off the ocean is cool and gusty,
The nails in the deck are just tad rusty.
The railings are salty and cold to the touch,
How often we don't really think of such.
The waves are rough coming into the shore,
walk down futher, just a little further more.
The winds get harder, you pull your sweater tight,
Walking ever so slowly, taking it all in, every sight.
Brother sun is setting in the western sky,
soon he will be saying good night and good-bye.
The sounds of joy surround you as you walk alone,
children laughing and eating ice-cream cones.
You take a journey down in the past,
into times that you thought would always last.
Life is journey you have looked back on many times,
Some memories sweet as sugar, some, sour as limes.
But right now, your just leaning on the railing, thinking about the past.
Realizing how nothing lasts.
How bless you've been, and how the journey ahead is still long,
Now your relating the boardwalks playing song.
Journying to the future, to see what you can,
will the things around you fall or stand?
You hold up your head and the wind on your face,
this is your solitude moment, this is your special place.
Smile, the future holds mysteries, not yet discovered...
From things in the past, you have already recovered.
Live forward in time, only look back to learn,
We all face these moments, we all take our turns.

By Kathryn Brookins

Kathryn Brookins

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/taking-a-walk-2/
