The summer is over, the hot days past <br />And the cool fruitful autumn is here <br />Remembering now those long sultry days <br />When lying dozily on the grass <br />Looking up at the meanest wisps of clouds <br />Sketched against the impossible blue <br />And the sea was so flat, that it merely licked the sand <br />It didn't rain in all those weeks <br />Everything, not only plants, cried out for water <br />You couldn't sleep for the heat in the night <br />In spite of having all the windows open <br />There wasn't one relieving breath of air <br />So you arose groggy eyed the next morning <br />Yes, the summer is over at last <br />But those of you who miss it <br />I say, don't be sorry, look forward <br />In just a few short weeks <br />It'll be time for Christmas cheer.<br /><br />Marilyn Shepperson<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-hot-summer-is-over/
