Once I knew a lonely girl
Who never talked or smiled
She sat at the back of every class
Waiting all the while

Waiting for a day when she
Could finally leave this life
Her pale skin showed no sign of love
Her wrists were slashed from knives

But no one knew behind the sadness
Of her pale façade
That she was a genius beneath her skin
But was never shown in class

The girls they laughed and teased her
‘Til she finally had enough
She slit her wrists in the shower room
And died from loss of blood

I wish I’d talked to that girl now
And shown her the light of day
But now she’s gone, never to come back
No one noticed anyway

Jessica Watson

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-lonely-girl/
