Hanuman’s happiness knew no bound, <br />When Lanka city at last he found, <br />To trace Sita was foremost in his mind, <br />But how far it was possible to find? <br /> <br />Ravana’s magnificent city <br />Was beautiful and wealthy, <br />With all its tight security, <br />Surrounded by a strong army. <br /> <br />Hanuman had reason to doubt, <br />How with fortress guard so stout, <br />Was it all possible to make entry, <br />Or, would it frustrate even an army? <br /> <br />What was, to enter, the best time? <br />Better he thought of night time. <br />He took himself a small shape, <br />And went around looking up. <br /> <br />A Goddess of the Lanka City, <br />Its guardian, Lanka Devi, <br />Questioned him at the gate, <br />For his stealthy entry at night. <br /> <br />A blow Hanuman gave her, <br />On the ground it sent her. <br />She stood aside to give way, <br />And he silently sneaked away. <br /> <br />Some ugly women here, <br />Some beautiful women there, <br />Some giant like men here, <br />Some soft looking men there, <br /> <br />But Sita wasn’t seen anywhere, <br />In palace, houses, every corner, <br />A doubt entered his head <br />Whether she was alive or dead? <br /> <br />For mercy, he prayed Ram, <br />Suddenly a flash of vision came, <br />And he saw a beautiful park, <br />To search there, he went back. <br /> <br />The park was Asoka Vana, <br />There he might see Sita, <br />So he thought and reached, <br />And thoroughly searched.<br /><br />Rajaram Ramachandran<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/ramayan-part-39-search-for-sita-in-lanka/
