I go to sleep and time turns back. <br />Then suddenly I am held fast, <br /> A nightmare mounts a sneak attack, <br /> transports me back into the past. <br /> <br />Convinced it is reality <br /> I am engulfed in black despair. <br />I struggle but I can’t break free. <br /> the misery is hard to bear. <br /> <br />I break sleeps chains and I awake. <br />My heart is pounding like a drum. <br />I dearly paid for my mistake <br /> and repetitions aren’t welcome. <br /> <br />My lady takes me in her arms <br />where I am safe and holds me tight. <br />She banishes the night’s alarms. <br />She has known terrors of the night. <br /> <br />With her I do not need to wear <br />the public face I hide behind. <br />I’m not afraid to share my fears. <br />She is compassionate and kind.<br /><br />ivor .e hogg<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/safely-held-for-my-wife/
