Because I could not stop for Bed– <br />She kindly stopped for me– <br />The carriage held but just ourselves– <br />And Sleepiness with me. <br /> <br />We slowly drove–She knew no haste <br />And I had lost all thoughts <br />Of conciousness, activity– <br />But thought of naught at all. <br /> <br />We passed the bathroom where I brushed <br />My teeth and flossed them too <br />We passed my dresser and I changed– <br />We passed my teddy bear. <br /> <br />Or rather–I actually picked him up and took him with us. <br />The sheets drew quivering and warm, <br />For only cotton PJs– <br />Bunny slippers too. <br /> <br />We paused before a boat that seemed <br />To waver 'fore my eyes. <br />It rocked so softly on the waves– <br />Caressed my cares away. <br /> <br />Since then–we've travelled–Westerly <br />To catch the setting sun <br />And bring him round the world with us <br />To rise up in the East<br /><br />Daniel Nairn<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/because-i-could-not-stop-for-bed/
