Beyond the stroke of midnight, <br />in a kingdom far away, <br />a fading soul is stranded <br />praying for the light of day, <br /> <br />he yearns to have the darkness <br />broken by a calming flame, <br />to bring his mind contentment <br />from this wicked worldly game. <br /> <br />Confused, he lays in silence <br />midst the demons of the night <br />where tranquil sleep's departed <br />leaving agony to fight, <br /> <br />but just when hope has vanished <br />comes a brilliance from afar; <br />approaching with rare splendor <br />is his priceless morning star. <br /> <br />Irradiating beauty <br />and surrounding him with grace <br />she frees him from the bondage <br />of depression's cold embrace <br /> <br />and wraps her love around him <br />in a blanket warmed by peace <br />consoling him 'til morning <br />when the daylight brings release. <br /> <br />He wakens to a whisper <br />and a tender kiss good-bye; <br />she promises his patience <br />will reveal the reasons why <br /> <br />and guide him 'til tomorrow <br />when his dreams won't be denied <br />beyond the stroke of midnight <br />where his morning star resides.<br /><br />Jo Lynn Ehnes<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/beyond-midnight/
