ANDREW BLAKEMORE - The Tale Of Two Spoons

2014-06-12 1 Dailymotion

Two boys were sat at the dining room table
As their mother gave them each a dishful of ice cream
And placed it down in front of them.
The younger of the boys reached for a large spoon
And hurriedly began to gulp it down,
The elder boy took a little spoon
And ate it as slowly as he possibly could.
Soon afterwards, the boy with the large spoon had finished
All of his ice cream and then began to weep,
As he looked on in envy at his brother
Still enjoying every tiny mouthful that he took.
'Please can I have some of your ice cream
For I have eaten all mine? ' He asked longingly,
As his gazed into his empty dish.
His elder brother shook his head and then replied:
'You must learn to savour the good things in life
And enjoy every second of their being.
For those who rush will only enjoy a brief moment of pleasure
That's followed by a long period of sadness.'
And so from that day onwards
Both of the boys always used a little spoon
Whenever they had ice cream for tea.

Copyright: Andrew Blakemore 2009

ANDREW BLAKEMORE

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-tale-of-two-spoons/
