The dawning light from her window, <br />Caught the tears upon her pillow, <br />Left for the love who was not there, <br />Beside her dark and fanning hair. <br /> <br />Many a lass awoke this morn, <br />To meet the dawn with hearts forlorn, <br />Many a lass throughout the years, <br />Wept together oceans of tears. <br /> <br />Yet fall still fades, winter begins, <br />And earth upon her axis spins, <br />As heavenly spheres dance above, <br />And mortals ever fall in love. <br /> <br />Our hearts deep within us pound <br />And by these ribs encircled round <br />Are protected from fall or blow <br />From chance or fate or evil foe. <br /> <br />Yet when the wound comes from within, <br />The walls of a heart are too thin <br />To cushion those pangs that bestow <br />Lonely tears upon a pillow.<br /><br />Dennis Lambert<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/tears-72/
