Our senses inspire our state of mind, <br />Like old music playing filling my ears with delightful bits of nostalgic ecstasy, <br />Or flavors of food pulsating with memories of past menageries and buffets, <br />Or scintillating textures weaving tales of lust and love and pain and sorrow. <br /> <br />Our senses tell us how to react. <br />Like a loud booming crash in the distance causing us to cringe in fright, <br />Or a sharp spicy blow to your taste buds to draw your tongue from its refuge, <br />Or a sudden warm enveloping sensation on your skin to let you uncoil and relax. <br /> <br />Our senses tell us what to think, <br />Like a sudden silence overcoming a group of colleagues as you enter the room, <br />Or the bitter taste of your mouth as you awake from a late night out, <br />Or a crisp pang of agony as you try to stand yourself up from a fall. <br /> <br />Our eyes tell us all the same things in details, <br />But our ears make the details glow with conviction, <br />And our tongues make the details swarm with distinction, <br />And our skin makes the details warm with familiarity.<br /><br />Warren Augustus de Guzman<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/thoughts-on-senses/
