Hypnotic drinks <br />And spellbound until dawn, <br />I’ve seen cities linger <br />In a moonlight haze. <br /> <br />Yesterday, <br />I was preoccupied <br />With mythical dreams <br />And exaggerated concepts <br />Of romantic defeat. <br /> <br />I have no explanations <br />For vanishing friends <br />Or inconclusive rendezvous, <br />No explanations <br />For when life <br />Comes to an end. <br /> <br />Confirming her words <br />By the intensity of her eyes, <br />Remarkable conversations <br />Float through the ether of eternity. <br /> <br />I don’t avoid priests <br />But my confessions <br />Have been in darkness <br />And about darkness. <br /> <br />Most of my acquaintances <br />Have been nowhere people <br />Existing in the landscape <br />Of temporary purpose, <br />But our feelings have been <br />Mutual and meaningful. <br /> <br />I’ve practiced <br />Mindfulness in meditation, <br />I’ve recited prayers <br />Before the homeless <br />And the extravagantly rich, <br />And it is hard to say <br />If either were impressed. <br /> <br />I’ve had a fascination <br />With ancient philosophical codes, <br />I’ve journeyed the highway <br />Of directionless destiny, <br />I’ve told girls <br />I was in love, <br />But I often feel <br />Like I’m experiencing <br />Mayan-like extinction of soul. <br /> <br />No one has taught me <br />Calibrated responses to love <br />In this scientific age <br />Of the emotions. <br /> <br />I’m discovering the phrases <br />To a lost sutra <br />Written in the sand <br />Protecting the heart <br />From any residue of insensitivity.<br /><br />Uriah Hamilton<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/intensity-of-her-eyes/
