When God said “Let there be some light! ”
divinely with His patter
creating Day One from the night,
He also made dark matter,
since it required darkness for
the light to be apparent,
and though some skeptics may ignore
the story as aberrant
it’s clear to me that what is dark
is vitally important,
for if you wish to see a spark
you must know that you oughtn’t
to keep the light on. God knew this,
and now He’s been exposed,
for though from waste-void’s deep abyss
the dark had been deposed
it’s remnant still remains the force
declaring: “Let there not
be light at all! ” and that, of course,
puts earth upon the spot
Now though creation started well
with God’s words, “Yehi ohr”––
“Let there be light, ” these letters spell––
there’s darkness at our door.

gershon hepner

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/darkness-at-the-door/
