The room smelled of peppermint <br />and I never knew why <br />as I crossed the wooden beams <br />into your world <br />watching my knuckles <br />whiten <br />on the door knob <br />then letting go <br />as the walls brushed <br />past my fingers <br /> <br />I tried to swallow <br />a first impression <br />from the scent of you <br />that lingered <br />in the unmade bed <br />or the shadow of your angles <br />in the shape <br />of the clothes <br />tossed on your floor <br /> <br />But I think my thoughts <br />in algebraic abstracts <br />and I cannot find <br />a rational edge <br />to all your random flavours <br />so I’ll drink you <br />in a cocktail <br />and taste you as you are<br /><br />Sheila Knowles<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/peppermint/
