When back in the good old days <br />When i had friends, that wern't real bright <br />When you could keep a farm of animals <br />In your back yard, chickens and geese <br />Pigs and goats and dogs <br />My mate Billy, was a prime example <br />Of a young boy, with a head full of sawdust <br />I hatched a brilliant plan <br />The Goose that layed the golden egg <br />I painted a goose egg, the colour gold <br />I sent Billy down to collect the egg, the golden egg <br />He came back up, frothing at the mouth <br />You would swear he'd won, first prize in a raffle <br />He was very excited <br />I said Billy i will have to test, the egg for hardness <br />How do you do that mate, he enquired <br />Give me the egg Billy, i replied <br />Turn around young Billy, i said <br />I had by this time aquired, a hard small rock <br />I give his head a little bang <br />Holy shit he said, that bloody hurt <br />Billy i said your bloody rich <br />Take it straight down to the bank <br />And bloody cash it boy <br />Away he went with great excitment <br />An hour later young billy returned <br />Red faced and angry <br />They laughed at me mate, he said <br />Didn't they give it a hardness test boy <br />No they didn't, he replied <br />Well one more test okay billy <br />Give me the egg, you can face me this time <br />Are you ready, yes mate i'm ready <br />Splot, they were right Billy <br />It's only fools Gold <br /> <br />Repost Series 2006<br /><br />allan james saywell<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/fools-gold/
