I lay there <br />cold and alone <br />with only the hum of the fluorescent lights <br />... and thoughts of you <br />to remind me I'm still here. <br />as I drift in drug induced sleep <br />I recall your scent <br />your arms <br />your smile <br />the way you looked at me <br />with awe and <br />an eagerness to please <br />I pretend you are holding my hand <br />your lips at the corner of my eyes <br />kissing my tears away <br />it was slow but without pain <br />that will come later. <br />torn and gone <br />I find myself broken, <br />yet again. <br />mild complications <br />but no worries <br />its only cancer <br />it will go away. <br /> <br />slowly I woke <br />from my dreams <br />trying to pick myself up <br />nauseated and dizzy <br />I drove myself home <br />searing, stabbing <br />intense pain <br />without ceasing <br />I curl up in a ball <br />body and soul <br />injured <br />in agony <br />and I rest <br />and I wait <br />for you to return again to me <br />in my dreams.<br /><br />Eila Mahima Jaipaul<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/shards-await-you/
