Wide walks, all so hardwearing, <br />Sheer window glass in high vast sheets. <br />Bright lights impressively glaring, <br />Blasting music also competes. <br /> <br />There is cacophonous clatter, <br />All so ear piercingly high pitched. <br />And such continuous chatter, <br />Oh, just where is the mains ‘Off’ switch. <br /> <br />The only thing worth the expense, <br />That I would go anywhere for, <br />Is the enticing redolence <br />Of coffee which I so adore. <br />I can’t keep up the abstinence, <br />When I see the cafes galore. <br /> <br />Shopping here though is a nightmare, <br />Sounds harshly echo in this space. <br />Before I resort to despair, <br />I must swiftly depart with grace. <br /> <br />Now where are the escalators, <br />And where are the main static stairs. <br />Where too are the elevators, <br />To my familiar thoroughfares. <br /> <br />I urgently now need to flee, <br />Which route should I be looking for, <br />Claustrophobia’s so ghastly, <br />This Centre is one mad uproar. <br /> <br />And so………. <br />A quiet peaceful shop, <br />Without piped in ‘Pop’. <br />Is what I require. <br />A great peripeteia. <br /> <br /> <br />© Ernestine Northover <br /> <br />Thoughts about a new Westfield Shopping complex in my town which is huge, noisy and out of this world with a 'WOW' factor, but............... <br />.<br /><br />Ernestine Northover<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/shopping-is-a-nightmare/
