Do you think this is me?
Behind so many masks I am weeping
Would you still love me if you knew my shadow?
No one questions the lies under the mask

But when music stop
And applause have ceased
The masks come of one by one

My first mask, foremost,
Dazzling and studded with jewels
Frosted with silver, adorned with gold
Joyous resplendence it shows

My second mask, my protective wall
Shrouded in darkest lies
A clasped gate, shutting of the world
The labyrinth fending of prying eyes

My third mask, my inner core
My anger worn like a veil
Forged in pain, tempered in tears
Liquid hate courses through my core

I'm lying so naked
So vulnerable, pallid and weak
No shield to hide the pain
To hide the blood
That each spiteful word draws
No mortal soul
Shall ever see me in this replusive state

Raven Keller

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-masquerade-ball/
