As an adult I have made enemies of things that were my friends
For instance there was a time when I loved to jump on beds
In school at lunch I could fit my whole lunch in my milk straw
I used to never flinch away from eating cookies raw
When life got hard I would climb in a cupboard and pretend to be a bear
For excitement I would slide in hamper down the stairs
But now I’m grown and when my kids do the same things I ruin all their fun
I worry about them cracking their heads so I tell them when they’re done
Replacing stained clothes is expensive and spoiled dinners are a pain
So I’ve turned in my childhood and flushed it down the drain

Asper Reynolds

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/being-an-adult/
