I once a had friend that I met online <br />He was addict just like me <br />Our conversations were filled laughter <br />I dreamed of living happily ever after <br /> <br />He spoke of his sobriety and how long he’d be clean <br />He told me I could stay clean too <br />I thought with his help anything was possible <br />My days of sobriety were far too few <br /> <br />I thought about cleaning up my act <br />Getting sober and staying that way <br />We spoke of love and meeting <br />I didn’t think our happiness was fleeting <br /> <br />I never imagined that it was lies <br />We were friends and almost lovers <br />Every night I turned on my computer <br />In hopes to speak with no one other <br /> <br />Everyday – I fell a little more in love <br />Though never ever told him so <br />I dreamt the first time we’d be kissing <br />I thought immediately of never missing <br /> <br />After a few months, he told me of his gf <br />But he said, things weren’t working out <br />That he thought that things were over <br />That more often they would scream and shout <br /> <br />I figured she would eventually move on <br />And that we would get a chance to be together <br />But he lied to me, about his life <br />She wasn’t just gf, she was his wife <br /> <br />I stopped talking to him, he never knew <br />How much he hurt me, how much I cared <br />A year later, I got a email from him <br />She left him, he was using again and scared <br /> <br />But I couldn’t forgive him for lying <br />though I often thought of the dream <br />I never talked to him again <br />about what could have been <br /> <br />I guess he's doing the best he can <br />I hear from him every once in a while <br />more often than I don't write back <br />even though he sends e-cards and smiles<br /><br />Linda Racaniello<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/online-love-edited-and-changed/
