Pioneers were such treasures <br />They certainly paved the way <br />Many diverse kinds of folks <br />But were different back in the day <br /> <br />Some had strong and firm directions <br />And others just moseyed along <br />Took the day as it came to them <br />Whistling a cowboy song <br /> <br />But the farmers worked so hard <br />Out in the broken fields <br />Plantin’ their crops night and day <br />Prayin’ they’d have a good yield <br /> <br />Dusty and dirty every single day <br />Walking behind that old plow <br />They sure spent plenty of time <br />Wiping sweat off their furrowed brow <br /> <br />Let’s not forget the women, folks <br />Not only did they work the fields <br />Cooking, cleaning and raising kids <br />For a family they needed to build <br /> <br />Let’s celebrate the pioneer, okay? <br />And never forget what they’ve done <br />They shaped the world for progress <br />And I’ll tell you, it was not always fun!<br /><br />Marilyn Lott<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/celebrating-the-pioneer/
