A blackened ribbon for thousands of miles
It becons us to try for a while
Running from south to far to the north
A vacation paradise with wonders put forth

Firghting the ravages of seasonal rain
It must endure what asphalt calls pain
With underground springs eroding the earth
The need for healing there is no dearth

The wonders revealed a balm to most
Breathtaking vistas of God's infinite coasts
With ocean vessels and white capped waves
The view from all ages-nothing but raves

The hope of all travelers next to the sea
Like a white light that was meant to be
With the smell of the salt in the foggy air
We turn away from our drudging cares

I'd like to drive forever, up and down 101
To see the gulls in the setting sun;
I'd unfurl my sails in what's important to me
And drive that black ribbon-to eternity

Ray Andrews

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/highway-101-coastal-highway-us-west-coast/
