David Griffin - A Mark of Love

2014-06-13 2 Dailymotion

Her life has been normal recently
Waking, dressing, feeding, and driving to day-care.
Her husband already gone to work,
she could not remember his early morning kiss,
So deep was her dream.

She wore cream linen, her hair tied up.
It was dusk, late summer.
Montbretia’s scent attracted the evening moths.
Pollination of a different kind was on her mind.

Her waking was wrapped in sadness
for it has left no lovers glow.
Her face bore no scars from passionate needs,
Yet she was sure she came to his soft words.
No. The sheets were chilled with the dampness
Of winters’ breathe, not his.

He called to say that Saturday was free.
The first in months. Now she planned.
This normal life was to become special again.
No cold breeze would caress her side this weekend.

Saturn’s rings wrapped all three in their heavenly bed.
The invisible planetary pull kept them firmly together.
A lazy rest descended, she was happy now.

She turned quickly, happy to sleep once more,
to share a Sandman’s morning with them.
Like a little child, thrilled to have found a silver treasure piece, she turned quickly.

The wall grazed her hand
leaving a reminder on her knuckle.
A Simple mark that would last the week.

David Griffin

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/a-mark-of-love/
