How can you talk of love, <br />And the one and only God above, <br />When you know deep in your heart, <br />That all your words just tear me apart? <br /> <br />How can one be so cruel, <br />And treat life as in a duel, <br />Threatening this little girl's soul, <br />Trying to destroy my female goal? <br /> <br />How can you say you love me, <br />When you deny me to be, <br />What is the very essence of my soul, <br />Preventing me from being whole? <br /> <br />How can you say that sending me away, <br />Will help me grow up one day, <br />To simply be a man, <br />When a girl I know I am? <br /> <br />Why have you given me life, <br />And then tell me I cannot be the wife, <br />Of a decent and loving man, <br />When you know that I can? <br /> <br />Why mother have you forsaken me, <br />To let the very girl I need to be, <br />That lives deep down in my soul, <br />Be complete and whole? <br /> <br />God has given me a dream, <br />But your unacceptance just makes me scream, <br />Because you have conjoled and tried, <br />Abandoned, hated and lied, <br />That makes me so sad I cried. <br /> <br />I will complete my life's goal, <br />To be happy and whole, <br />In body and soul, <br />As the girl I just need to be, <br />For all the world to see.<br /><br />Barbara Lynn Terry<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/how-can-you-talk-of-love/
