Surprise Me!

Melvina Germain - (903) Calgary's finest

A police cruiser, speeds by, sirens
ring out loud and clear.
a naughty joke is said, the donut run
must be, just up ahead.
A time or two, that may be so, they
are just people as we know.

The residents call them” Calgary’s finest”,
and that they are for sure, They
say goodbye to fear, when they beat
down those crack doors.

When all is said and done, and these
officers are on the run, looking for the bad
guys who would certainly shoot us with
their guns. For that, we should give
thanks instead of asshole cranks.

Police protect you and me each and
every day. No matter what the weather,
no matter what people say. Respect, they
have not, abuse they endure, but they
stand proud, and come back for more.

They are the unsung heroes, whether you
want to say it or not. Give them what
they deserve, they put themselves on the
spot. They have a duty to fulfill, they
do it at will.

They’re a strong community, we
must understand, among them they
go hand in hand. Like sisters
and brothers and sometimes a little
more, but that’s what happens when
you work behind closed doors.

If a situation presents itself and an
altercation takes place, it may be difficult
to face. Adrenalin erupts, fight explodes,
a gun is pulled, shots fired, disaster
hits, an officer goes down, duty to the
death on this go round.

So give your head a shake, allow them,
to take a break.

August 19/2006

Melvina Germain

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/903-calgary-s-finest/
