Our country’s standard waves on high. <br />A sign of pride and confidence, <br />the flag for which our brave men died. <br />Can be a cause of grave offence. <br /> <br />to other men in other lands. <br />Where we have no right to be. <br />Not every body understands <br />our brand of democracy. <br /> <br />Perhaps its time that we reviewed <br />our national foreign policy <br />and took a different attitude <br />You cannot force men to agree. <br /> <br />Other nations too, have their pride <br />as it is only right they should <br />We have no mandate to decide, <br /> although our motives may be good. <br /> <br />We should respect their sovereignty <br />We have no right to interfere <br />in their affairs internally <br />The cost of meddling is too dear. <br /> <br />Why should our soldiers bear the cost <br />of politicians past mistakes. <br />It seems quite clear that we have lost. <br />The time has come to pull up stakes. <br /> <br />And leave their fate in their own hands. <br />Let them decide; its not our place. <br />Who they want to rule their lands <br />this is the truth we have to face. <br /> <br />15-Apr-07<br /><br />ivor .e hogg<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/we-must-face-the-truth/
