i'm better off a myth to them; <br />misunderstood, unknown. <br />a reference point or allegory, <br />a story that they've grown <br />to either love or not believe at all, <br />a tall-tale or a legend, <br />a fable or a parable of goddesses <br />and demons. <br /> <br />it's better that they never know <br />what life has been for me. <br />it'd only scare them anyway, <br />if they could dare believe, <br />the magick i have seen, the mysteries <br />i comprehend. <br />it's better they think me insane, <br />they'd never understand. <br /> <br />far better ignorance remain <br />at least where i'm concerned. <br />i wouldn't want to force the test <br />before the lesson's learned. <br />with so much they just can't imagine, <br />how will they discover me. <br />tho i exist, as part of them, <br />in continuity. <br /> <br />and so i'm better off a myth. <br />honored, maybe loathed. <br />seen but never quite believed in; <br />like a faerie tale or ghost, <br />or like the monster in the closet, <br />a stranger from the land of 'queer'. <br />but never as a revelation. <br />and never, ever as a mirror!<br /><br />moon batchelder<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/mythic-proportions/
