Who You Want To Be <br />Date: May 21,2014 <br /> <br />You choose your place <br />Away in the distant hills <br />Looking down on my garden <br />Guiltlessly enjoying the view <br />While from high, your path is scattered with rocks and stones <br />Far too treacherous to seek <br />The terrain, a landmine full of chaos <br />Your house looms, dark and dangerous, a monolith of steel <br /> <br />You choose your life <br />As decreed by influence <br />Ink drawn by the kindred’s heavy hand <br />A blood pact etched onto your consciousness <br />Your future woven through blood and bone <br />Like a corset laced tight to bind your soul <br />You have no want or will to depart <br />Resolved to keep house inside the cage <br /> <br />You choose your bearing <br />Head cocked, nose turned high <br />Wielding your weapon in whispers <br />By day…stainless in your creed <br />By night…a marauder <br />Lurking the shadows of premeditated depravity <br />Injecting venom sweetened by fool’s desire <br />Singing your songs of greed and glaring misconception <br /> <br />You choose your offense <br />Swallowing the ruins, rather than chew on the root <br />Borrowing knives from your twisted circle of seers <br />To strike blows to the heart that holds you harmless <br />You claim virtues yet favored or acknowledged <br />Negating fault to your actions or injury <br />You gather as fact, from the lips of crows <br />Holding true, despite the light in your own sightless eyes <br /> <br />You choose your belief <br />As if season upon season of cultivation <br />Has brought you no riches, no prosperity <br />No grain worth its weight, no harvest to reap <br />There’s only a garden, far, far below you <br />You horde its joys from your distant throne <br />Contemplating…to make or to break, in a landslide of stone <br />To destroy with apathy, the fields that you've sown. <br /> <br />********************************************* <br />Copyright © 2014 Leria Hawkins, All Rights Reserved<br /><br />Leria Hawkins<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/who-you-want-to-be-2/
