Feelings become confused, blurred
Like the faces of a worn photograph
The separation seems cruel and I long for affection
For an end to torturous second glances
Why do I bite your tongue?
I favour no-one by imprisoning your thoughts
Instead I injure myself further so, than the injustice done to you
Chewing through the muscle will not sever the sentiments
Because it is the wrong muscle
I feel it struggling against its enclosure
As though it might break out at first sight of them
It wants to run to them, to reach them, to be with them
Our other half
The half which was taken from you
The half sewn roughly together with a poisonous amicable bond
Half-hearted, I feel them forgetting you, and watch as our heartache bleeds loneliness
Butterflies float amongst fluttering stars,
Their wings splattered with us

SJ.
