Jennifer Romero - Lamentation Of A Miscalculation

I stumbled upon this mirror,
I gazed into its depths,
The image inside confused me,
It danced about illogically.
It sang a tune erratically.
It visually disgusted me.

The image was played out like a motion picture;
It had all the right actors
All the right scenes
All the right props
except
it was missing me.

An imposter stood in my place,
stole my spotlight,
and laughed in my face.
I was transfixed by the image,
A horror beyond any before,
A sharp shove at my back,
Then face forward I fell to the floor.

Suddenly I realized how naive I had been,
I left what was most cherished to me unattended,
That’s when this phony stepped right in,
She saw the world in which I resided
Decided she was comfortable with this skin,
Into my limbs she subsided,
Much to my great chagrin.

On the jagged floor on which I fell,
I lay limp, engulfed in pain.
To all my happiness I bid farewell,
Nothing would ever again feel sane.
My stupidity was clear as crystal now,
To this imposter I refuse to bow,
But what could be done from where I lay,
Bleeding, broken, in disarray.

I stumbled upon this mirror,
I gazed into its depths,
The image inside was reality.
It didn’t hesitate to slap me,
It punched me - violently,
I earned it for acting foolishly
My naiveté was the end of me.

Jennifer Romero

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/lamentation-of-a-miscalculation/
