I can't see down the road,
anymore than you can,
I have never found a reason,
to repeat mistakes of others,
catching up is tough enough,
without those complications,
but then again, I've never been,
as far behind as you have.

Amazing big leaps forward,
at the cost of only people,
the expendable, dispensible,
disposible - - - humanity unseen.

I can't see down the road,
anymore than you can,
but, I tend to hope you wouldn't want,
your government to do that for you,
if you knew what they were doing.

You can't see down the road,
and you dare not drink your water,
You want standing in the world,
though it's not allowed within your borders,
... or those you've taken over.

It is not an easy thing I ask,
to put upon your shoulders,
... the massive weight of change.

As you stand before the crossing roads,
you want us to play games,
to call tyranny, false ecstasy,
and pretend that's how it should be.

We all know that further on,
some chasm may develop,
... let us take this opportunity,
... let's build the bridge that must be built,
... knowing one day we must cross it,
... before everything is lost to us.

Barry Van Allen

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/olympic-dreams-3-26-2008/
