All my life I’ve always worried <br />what others thought of me. <br />When I was young, I was self-conscious <br />about the way I looked <br />and then about the job I did. <br />The worries just compounded <br />driving me back into a shell of loneliness. <br /> <br />It took me a long, long time <br />to realise just who I was. <br />If someone didn’t like me <br />that was their problem. <br />I was who I was, <br />not what everyone else <br />wanted me to try to be. <br /> <br />If no one liked what I did <br />that was their issue not mine <br />so long as it was legal, <br />I was who I was. <br />Why should I pretend <br />to be someone <br />I was clearly not? <br /> <br />Now that I am older, <br />I don’t really care anymore. <br />You can accept me as I am <br />and if you don’t, then tough. <br />Don’t try telling me I’m wrong <br />in the way I think <br />because your words don’t matter anymore. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />8 June 2011<br /><br />David Harris<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/accept-me-as-i-am-3/
