Today, I knew I lost her. <br />In the early hours of the morning, <br />She just slipped away. <br />All that she worked for. <br />Came crumbling down upon her. <br /> <br />Today, she lost her hold on reality, <br />All the good in life turned sour, <br />All the strong ones fell weak. <br />Before the sun had even rose, <br />She had lost all control. <br />She no longer knew who she was. <br /> <br />Somewhere along that line, <br />She had fallen short <br />Of what everyone had wanted from her, <br />Just leaving her <br />Void, without an identity, <br />As just a label, <br />Failure, <br />Disappointment. <br />In the privacy of her own mind <br /> <br />All the pain she suffered, <br />All the pain she also caused, <br />All the times she was let down, <br />All the times she let them all down, <br />It all came rushing in, <br />And it became too unbearable. <br />She had been lost amongst the shuffle <br />Of those getting higher. <br /> <br />She will not be missed. <br />Today, I lost myself. <br />The once strong self has quietly exited. <br />The secure person I once was <br />Is now completely gone. <br />In the early hours of the morning <br />My happiness slipped away. <br /> <br />Before the sun had even rose <br />My joyous disposition surrendered to all my pain, <br />Letting the cold, hard reality of the world set in. <br />Today I lost all hope of ever finding my happy self again.<br /><br />Vanessa Kurtz<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/losing-your-identity/
