Francis Duggan - The Ex Refugee

2014-06-14 0 Dailymotion

Back in the nineteen fifties his Homeland Hungary he was forced to flee
And he arrived in Melbourne Victoria as a young refugee
He married a good Aussie woman they have one lovely daughter Jo
He now is close to seventy and his hard life on him show.

He has not been back to Hungary since he left decades ago
And he does not have any family or kin there now and none there he would know
He is now an Aussie citizen and in Australia he will stay
Until the Reaper claims him the one who will claim all of us one day.

He does not have an enemy and one could not ask for a better friend
And if you ask him for a loan money to you he will lend
To help those in need of helping he has gone out of his way
And those who know him hold him in high esteem and good things of him say.

What is a great loss to Hungary is surely Australia's gain
And the strong accent he brought with him is a thing he does retain
The young refugee of the fifties is showing his years in gray
And the clock on his life is ticking and time ticks and ticks away.

He does not pine for Hungary his old Homeland far away
And in this great Southern Country his bones will forever lay
A good and decent fellow his heart is in the right place
And in the Southern Coastal Town his is a well known face.

Francis Duggan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-ex-refugee/
