I am a princess locked in an ivory tower
Dismissed from the memories of man
Lingering in these most idle hours
Until a prince comes round again

Forgotten by the dreams I once knew
As I wait for he who bears the key
Praying for that chivalrous rescue
So that I can finally be set free

I knew that dreams could come true
But I had fallen to a bleak despair
Feeling lost not knowing what to do
The loneliness was more than I could bear

Then on my heart's darkest of days
I looked toward the horizon so blue
And there amidst the flowered fairway
A lone prince slowly rode into view

Dare I believe my very own eyes
Is it but a trick of the glare?
I closed them tight to dispel any lies
But when I opened them he was still there

He rode forthright across the field
Then so boldly strode up to the door
And to his one key, the lock did yield
I am a prisoner of the fates no more

Many nights had I lain within my bower
Imploring the Heavens so far above
To do all within their infinite power
And send to me my one and only love

And I shall kiss him with the passion due
To a knight that answered so forlorn a prayer
And for each day that ever dawns anew
I shall forever be his lady most fair

Sheri Walters

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-ivory-tower/
