And God spoke. <br />In the town of night bells chimed loud, <br />Villagers awoke. <br /> <br />In the square gathered a mighty crowd, <br />the sky grew dark overhead and people trembled in fear, <br />the time neared a crucial mark when sudden arose a cheer, <br />shallow seasons with glowing reasons, <br />brought forth good into the evil air, <br />a dashing hero stepped up to set victory, <br />casting doubt from their minds that grow in fear, <br />shallow seasons with glowing reasons, <br />seeking out the golden light. <br /> <br />The hero stood bold in a circle of flame, <br />none could dim his light, <br />he strode forth to battle, <br />the evil slain by his sight, <br />shallow seasons with glowing reasons, <br />lift their hearing in happy sound. <br /> <br />The hero fought a bloody battle, <br />the conflict lasted long, <br />raising hope for the good, <br />burning bridges of the wrong. <br /> <br />Again God spoke. <br /> <br />In the town the night bells ceased, <br />cheers broke down again, <br />the furrowed land in turmoil creased, <br />the sky above blazed bright <br />and people fell to their knees, <br />time marched into the light, <br />words of prayer became empty pleas, <br />God proclaimed from on high <br />the hero is a fake, <br />a bolt of lightening struck him down <br />and cast his body in the lake, <br />shallow seasons with glowing reasons, <br />false witness, prophet and treasons.<br /><br />Richard Allen Beevor<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/shallow-seasons-with-glowing-reasons/
