Jesse Ellsbury - She (A Beautiful Lunatic)

2014-06-14 1 Dailymotion

Her breath stained the April air
A lovely shade of grey,
“A person’s voice is the echo of her soul, ”
she shimmered,
her lilt bucking in half-laughter.

The trees stood like wooden columns
Holding up the sky,
“The city is just a petrified forest, ”
She smirked glassily;
She stumbled on the stones,
Said it was her repose,

And splashed into the brackish creek
Like someone’s anchor hitting Casey Jones.
Caught somewhere between sky and Hell,
April plopped on the ground like a dull bell
And guffawed like a beautiful lunatic.

I knew I had to get out
Before the bonds between us hardened
So I said, “I know this isn’t real,
This is only what we feel
Right now,
Eventually the hours
Will outstrip your shadow.

Her hair soaked up the heat
And turned her head into the sun,
“Reality erodes your mind, ”
She taunted,
Unwittingly belly-dancing on the sand.

Snarling winter came upon us
Like a shower-drain hurricane,
“You look good when you’re wearing water, ”
She kissed;
We never had a chance to change

Into our winter mindset
Where normal looks like strange
And strange starts looking normal,
You made me feel immortal –
That is, until I died.

I knew it was over
Long before we admitted it,
She slurred,
“I knew you were going to leave,
I just didn’t expect you
To say ‘goodbye
When I asked ‘why? ’
Your heart was the part that didn’t cry.'

Jesse Ellsbury

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/she-a-beautiful-lunatic/
