Preston Simmons - The Shadowed Vase

2014-06-14 2 Dailymotion

I sit in the darkest corner of my home,
Because that is where poetry has been placed
By society.
I put every letter of my poetry in a vase,
because of the beauty
Seen on the outside of both objects,
But more importantly, the beauty within.

I wish I could bring poetry
out from the dark,
So that other people
could see her beauty.
instead I keep her company,
nurture her, and learn from her.
no one in the street wants to approach her,
because she is a kaleidoscope of words and letters.
they say they are too busy for her,
and must go to their meetings.
How is sitting on a park bench
Next to others who are fearful of poetry
An actual meeting?

In the dark corner
of a New York apartment,
A vase fell from a glass table, and shattered.
the shatter was not heard
because of the bustling city below.

An apology to poetry
Will not satisfy what is broken and lost.
The vase may be broken, but it is not lost.
It is supported by the few strong floors
Of the building below.
So it is with poetry.
She may be broken from the grip of society,
But she is not lost.
She is supported by the strong shoulders
Of those who love her.

I hope that poetry can continue to be brought
Out of the dark
And into the dawn of understanding.
With time, the light will grow,
As hours pass
and more people come out of their homes
To enjoy the growing light.

Preston Simmons

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-shadowed-vase/
