Proper flogging she gave him she did <br />Took the starch right out of his britches <br />Bloody little thief had stolen a pie from the kitchen window <br />And here all this time she'd thought it was the gypsies <br />Cause for the last few weeks right before harvest <br />They'd all been camping out back in the grove <br />Up until she'd seen this boy running from the house <br />Right into her arms as she was hanging out the wash to dry <br />She'd thought for sure it was those pie grabbing gypsies <br />Except no babies or money had gone missing <br />And gypsies don't usually like rhubarb and vinegar pies <br />No they're more likely to pick your trees clean of apples <br />Bring'em to your door just knowing you can't resist baking some <br />Then they'll lie around out yonder by the barn <br />Waiting on the smell of cinnamon to wet their appetite <br />And then when you ain't a looking they'll steal one <br />Right from under your nose <br />Before it even has a chance to cool <br />Gypsies are crafty and seldom leave any evidence <br />She knew all about gypsies <br />Her mama had warned her about them <br />Fact is, when she was a young girl a gypsy read her palm <br />Told her she was gonna marry a wealthy man and have many children <br />That never happened, she married poor and her womb was barren <br />But she did know how to bake a good pie <br />The gypsy had been right about that..... <br />Turning her attention back on the thieving little bastard she'd caught... <br />She wondered if she could bake him in a pie... <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />2007 © T Sheridan<br /><br />Ted Sheridan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/meat-pies-with-brown-eyes-and-pug-noses/
