Was there pain when you left,
Did you die in peace,
Will your spirit now go and rest,
And leave the sickness behind.

When you were living there was pain and sickness,
You were always happy through it all,
You were stronger than most of us,
Until the bitter end of life.

We were sad when we lost you,
Thinking why it had to be you,
Your smile lit up everything,
And now we all miss you.

But now I see how you must feel,
At peace without any pain,
It is better for you to be gone than to stay.

As much as I miss you,
I now understand,
The suffering is over,
And you are in heaven!

This is a poem based on a true story of a girl named Becky. She died of Brian cancer in the end, but also had down-syndrome. She lived to be 18. She suffered at the end, but was strong through the whole thing! We all miss her but we know she is in a better place.

MY COMMENTS:
An old ode to a friend.

Emily E. Mehigan

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/becky-the-brave/
