It wasn’t a pleasant night <br />Jesus with a heavy heart, <br />Went to Gethsemane, a place, <br />That gave his mind no peace. <br /> <br />His disciples followed him <br />To stay behind, he told them. <br />He took only three men, <br />Peter, James and John. <br /> <br />He told them, “Sit here, <br />Let me say my prayer. <br />Keep a watch till then.” <br />He went ahead alone. <br /> <br />“Father, why prolong <br />This kind of suffering? <br />Yet, it’s not what I want, <br />But is what You want.” <br /> <br />Soon, when he returned, <br />He was surprised to find <br />His three disciples asleep. <br />A watch, they failed to keep <br /> <br />He said to Peter, “Simon, <br />Can’t you be awake even, <br />For my sake, for one hour <br />Till I finish my prayer? ” <br /> <br />“The spirit is willing, <br />But the flesh is unwilling. <br />Let me say a word of caution. <br />Don’t fall into temptation.” <br /> <br />He went once more, <br />To another corner, <br />Again for his prayer, <br />Addressing the Father. <br /> <br />When he returned back, <br />They didn’t keep awake, <br />But were in deep sleep <br />And he woke them up. <br /> <br />When, for the third time, <br />After prayer, he came, <br />Seriously he told them <br />“The hour has come.” <br /> <br />“Look, the Son of Man, <br />In the hands of sinful men <br />Is now being handed over; <br />The betrayer has come here.”<br /><br />Simple Simon<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/j49-jesus-prays/
