Running in the sun with a terrier named Queenie <br />Gathering morels under a blossoming apple tree <br />Standing still as a stick hearing the hum of a bee <br />Many years ago, these were childhood images of me <br /> <br />Wadding in a rippling flow below the culvert-bridge <br />Scooping polliwogs, squatting low at stream’s edge <br />Freckle tiger lilies watching near the cresting ridge <br />A dragonfly glistened as it hovered, granting knowledge <br /> <br />Apple trees no longer blossom with the hum of the bee <br />Fruit trees are bulldozed down as young rabbits flee <br />Leveling an orchard to build upon… land naked of trees <br />A habitat for new dwellers in prefab houses with TVs <br /> <br />The Disney Channel is where young children now explore <br />Mesmerized with fingers clicking on a computer keyboard <br />Contained in a sterile domain, bolted behind a solid door <br />I see the changes as time advances; I am a child no more <br /> <br />1/27/08<br /><br />Theresa Ann Moore<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/once-upon-a-time-29/
