Youth surrounded by ocean waves.
Crashing and bashing on Carolina shores.
The year was 1990 or maybe before.
Edwin McCain blasting out of Surf 102.5, The Wave.

The boardwalk was sweltering fishy fumes.
The girls looking at me and smile while walking by.
Cool ocean breezes couldn’t melt my ego away.
Days gone by on a hot summer’s day.

Night came sooner than later back then.
Watching the sun go down with all my friends.
Pack up the things and head south to the point.
Down near Fort Fisher, we would laugh the night away.

Build a fire, sing some songs, and watch long boats go by.
Sometimes we had to split in the sandbur marsh.
Come back out when the police headlights were gone.
Continue the ritual of indispensable youth.

Gulliver Gimble

http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/such-long-gone-days/
