For freedom from persecution he came to this country a human <br />soul and his heart is not of stone <br />But the Government has not made him feel welcome and he feels isolated and alone <br />For entering this Land without a passport he's in a jail whilst his case is for review <br />And he has been condemned to further suffering despite what he has already been through. <br /> <br />Has he not suffered far too much already his Country's Government soldiers murdered his children and his wife? <br />And forced him to become a freedom fighter by destroying what mattered most to him in life <br />He fought against the forces of oppression against those who suppress justice and liberty <br />The reason he is not in his own Country and the reason he is now a refugee <br /> <br />They honour men who fought and died in battles against foreign foes and in a foreign Land <br />But the foreigner who fights for human rights against the oppressors they do not want and that I don't understand <br />He is a fellow they try to discredit though a lie detector test he did not fail <br />Here is a man they should applaud and honour instead they have him languishing in jail. <br /> <br />Here is a man who fought against the oppressors and here is a man whose wife and family <br />Were mudered by the so called Government soldiers and from his Homeland he was forced to flee <br />And here is a man who should be decorated instead behind high prison walls he wait <br />For the Government for to grant him residency status or else to deport him which would seal his fate.<br /><br />Francis Duggan<br /><br />http://www.poemhunter.com/poem/the-refugee-2/
